From the Amazon to Bogotá, the journey of Açai
Each of our natural sodas or Açai infusions has a story behind it. This fruit is not native to the areas near Bogotá, and its arrival at our facilities is a journey in itself.
The journey of Açai begins in small communities in Guaviare and Putumayo that use their land to cultivate it with a sustainable use permit. To harvest the fruit, they climb the palm tree and bring down the entire cluster. They are then wrapped in cloth or tarps and transported by motorcycle to the processing plants.
There, the açai berries are washed, the branches are removed, and specialized machines remove the seeds. The flavor of the fruit is condensed into a mostly liquid concentrate with a solid content of 12% to 14%.
This açai “extract” is frozen and shipped by truck to Bogotá if it comes from San José del Guaviare. However, when the açai comes from Putumayo, the frozen pulp must first be transported by canoe or light aircraft to Puerto Asís before beginning its journey to Bogotá.
Once in the capital, we take this pulp concentrate and subject it to a freeze-drying process, which allows us to maintain its nutritional properties when transforming it into 100% natural products that are beneficial to the body.
